Vinegar: Cleaning Hacks

What are your favorite go-to cleaning supplies? Maybe you have a favorite feather duster or a handy dust rag. And surely you carry around a jug of vinegar when you clean. You read that right…vinegar. Now, we all­­ know that vinegar is one of those must-have ingredients when pickling. But did you know that vinegar is versatile and useful beyond the pickle jar? You can actually take vinegar around the house. Really, you can. Vinegar is one of those fantastic “jack-of-all-trades” cleaning supplies that no house should be without.

You can clean your shower head with vinegar. We have an entire blog devoted to the five easy steps to clean your showerhead using vinegar.


Mix one cup of vinegar with enough water to fill an ice tray. Freeze the new cubes. Toss the cubes into the garbage disposal for a clean and odor free disposal.

Living Room

Put on an old sock and dip your hand into a mixture equal parts white vinegar and hot tap water and swipe across the window blind slats for a “white glove” clean surface.

Laundry Room

Unclog your steam iron by pouring equal parts white distilled vinegar and water into the iron’s water chamber. Turn the setting to steam and let sit upright for about 5 minutes. Unplug and allow to cool. Empty the chamber and loosened particles should flow out with the water.


Spray full-strength white, distilled vinegar directly on the top of weeds to get rid of the pesky garden intruders.


Combine equal parts water, white distilled water and liquid dish soap into a spray bottle and use as a bug spray.
